About Us
"Sahara youth centre provides positive activities for local young people from lawfield, plumpton, darnley and balne lane areas. We engage with these young people to keep them off our streets and give them a vision and sense of direction by providing a wide range of activities both in and out of youth club. We are keen to concentrate on our own young people from our local area but also welcome any one who feels that we as a voluntary organisation can help them. This year in our summer scheme we took a group of ten young people to conwy, north Wales for three day residential and did mountain climbing, kayaking and gouage walking. We also did day trips including alton tower, blackpool, flamingo land and scarborough. We work closely with local secondary schools and receive referrals from them to deal with young people who are on verge of exclusion or have been excluded from schools. We allocate them a mentor who works with young person to help him to keep them in main stream education. We also have islamic classes delivered by a qualified person on various topics chosen by young people themselves on every Tuesday 8 pm till 9 pm. We provide a wide range of activities including IT classes, mentoring, football, cricket, table tennis, air hockey, pool table, play station three and nintendo wii.
